Doctoral Programme in Advanced Therapies for Health

Advanced therapy medicinal products are new medical products based on genes (gene therapy), cells (cell therapy) and/or tissues (tissue engineering), eventually combined with Nanotechnology. These advanced therapies promise a new era of revolutionary treatments of a number of diseases or injuries, either congenital, degenerative or infectious, from several organic systems, such as musculoskeletal diseases, burns, central & peripheral nervous system, cardiovascular, hematological and immunological entities.

The PhD programme in Advanced Therapies for Health (PATH) at the University of Minho aims at the advanced training of highly interdisciplinary graduate professionals needed to develop new advanced therapies for the large array of unmet clinical needs. The PATH program is proposed by the ICVS/3B’s Associate Laboratory, and supported by the European Institute of Excellence on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, EXPERTISSUES European Especial Interest Group (EEIG).

This breaking field of Regenerative Medicine frequently requires the development of new strategies, instruments and equipment intended for its minimally invasive application.
